Matthew Quinn received his B.A. with emphasis in ceramics from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota.  There he was afforded the unique opportunity to study under both long time professor Sister Dennis Frandrup and former Richard Bresnahan apprentice Sam Johnson.  Sister Dennis’ emphasis on technical perfection was pivotal in developing Matthew’s skill on the potter’s wheel.  After her retirement Matthew got to know Sam Johnson and his raw style of throwing.  These influences meshed and gave rise to the style that defines Matthew’s work today.
