Artist Statement
My work simply represents a moment in time. The nature of clay allows me to carry themes through my work but individual pieces can never be duplicated. Life is much the same. Each experience, perhaps similar to another, can never be relived. I strive to escape this reality in the work I create.
Each piece I create is thrown, then placed back on the potter’s wheel. A heavy slip is then applied that drips and slumps across the surface of the piece. Once dried, the effect is similar to a frozen waterfall. Then each piece is glazed with a combination of glazes that form micro-crystals that flow over the contour of the piece. The result is the creation of a moment, normally fleeting, captured and fired into eternity.
